5 Ways To Increase Retail Sales In Your Beauty Biz
Retail - one of the must-have revenue sources in your business to help make your income goals come true! This blog is dedicated to all the beauty babes who are currently selling retail in their businesses AND all of you that have found yourself tottering on the fence of whether offering retail products to clients is something you are ready to jump into. We’ve talked about the benefits of offering retail to your beauty clients several times in the past because although selling retail in your business has SO many positives, we often find that a lot of sunless sisters struggle with the execution of selling products to their clients. It’s the actual “sales” action that makes biz owners feel weary about jumping into the retail space, because having the products available is just the first step, you also have to get your clients to want to buy those products! If you find that sales freaks you out and you're not sure if offering retail to your clients is the right next move for you, we are going to dive into five ways you can sell more retail in your beauty biz without the stress.
Set the Stage
It should be a priority to create a retail display that invites clients in to explore what you have to offer. If your retail setup is not eye-catching or you have all of your products hidden away in a corner where it’s not easily accessible or noticeable when clients visit your establishment, you’re going to find that it’s more difficult to sell your retail! Being a mobile spray tan artist makes this a little bit more tricky, but surely not impossible! Clearly, if you strictly offer mobile tanning services, you don’t have a stagnant setup at your own location that can be perused by all of your clients. This is where you have to put your creative juices to work! We recommend taking a little extra time during your appointment setup to create a display of your products so that your items can be laid out during the appointment, allowing clients to gander at what you have to offer while they’re getting sprayed. Setting up your products at the beginning of mobile appointments also ensures that you’re less likely to forget to talk about these products once the appointment has concluded. Since your retail items will already be on display, clients are more prompted to ask questions, touch, hold and try any samples you have to offer them, which increases the likelihood that they will purchase.
Think Outside The Box
When we opened our first ever spray tan salon, Slay Beauty Bar, we wanted to make the most out of the space that we had. This meant that we needed to think outside of the box and get creative. The tanning room is the space where the client is getting their service done, but this is also where they will be spending the majority of their time when they’re visiting your location. We took this into consideration for our own tanning room and made sure to utilize the space that the clients would be facing while getting their spray tan. We positioned a basic, inexpensive television on the wall opposite where the client would be standing during their appointment and used it to display a slideshow of the specials, services, and retail products that we carried in the salon as well as the benefits of those services and how to use our best-selling products.
Offer Samples
It’s no secret that, 1. People love free sh*t, and 2. People like trying before buying. That’s why offering samples is a super common strategy amongst business owners, even in the big box stores like Ulta and Sephora. We have all been out shopping at these types of establishments and see “testers” lying around to be sampled. The important thing to know is that there’s a reason why this is such a popular tactic when it comes to selling retail! Most people are more likely to purchase an item if they sample it first. According to “Product Sampling Study” by Arbitron and Edison Media Research, 35% of people who sample a product while shopping will buy the sampled product. As you can see, offering samples and showing your clients how you personally recommend using the item to better their experience can go a long way in increasing your retail sales overall!
Utilize Video Marketing
Video has been a powerful avenue for marketing your business that only continues to grow. The reason why we love video content so much is because of the way it helps demonstrate the benefits of the products that are being offered to clients. Video has a unique way of enticing the interest of consumers without them feeling like they’re explicitly being sold to. It’s such a powerful medium to use in your marketing strategy! However, we know that video is extremely intimidating for a lot of beauty biz babes. If you find yourself getting in your own way when it comes to creating video, this is your sign to just go for it! Although we encourage you to put your face out there when marketing your services and products, there are so many ways to create videos that peak your audience's interest without you even having to show your face.
Create Bundles
Bundle those products! We LOVE taking the products that we offer and bundling them in a way for clients to purchase multiple products at the same time, but at a discounted price. When bundling products you should use your knowledge and experience from past customer purchases on which items would fit well together and increase interest from your buyers. Bundles are great because people love to feel like they’re getting a bang for their buck. Although your bundle price provides a discount to your customers, you’re still selling more at one time at a higher price and increasing the likelihood that your customers will come back to purchase one or more of the products included in the bundle at some point in the future.
Who is pumped to use these five ways to vamp up their retail sales!? All of these strategies you can start putting into action now and reaping the benefits of more income to your beauty biz, which also means more time and financial freedom for you.
