Create a Five Star Client Experience
Creating that five star, red carpet experience for your clients during their spray tan appointment can make all the difference in client retention and growing your beauty biz! Your clients deserve the best, which is why it’s so important to take it upon yourself to pull out the stops in order to take your business to the next level. When we talk about a red carpet experience, what we are actually talking about is creating an unforgetting experience. Providing a red carpet experience for your clients will allow them to leave feeling like royalty and ready to tell all their friends about the best spray tan in town. When you go above and beyond, exceed expectations and put in the effort to create a “wow” effect, that’s how you get return business and increase your word of mouth marketing. Pulling out the red carpet for your clients doesn’t have to be on a huge scale, either! Small details that you may not think would make a huge impact can actually be what takes an appointment from average to extraordinary. Your goal should be to curate an experience that leaves your clients feeling amazing long after their appointment comes to a conclusion. So what is really involved in pulling out the red carpet? Here’s a few things you can do:
In the Details
The little things matter! In life and in your spray tan appointments, it’s really the little things that can make the most impact. Investing in the “extras” and taking the time during your appointments to ensure that you prep your client to the fullest extent allows them to know that they’ve come to a business that knows what they’re doing! Your clients should get the impression that they are working with someone who is knowledgeable, conscious of sanitation and safety and fully prepared. The details that make that impression include sticky feet, hair nets, disposable panties, nose plugs, barrier cream, prep spray, etc. You would be surprised at how many times a client has looked at me in amazement when I hand them a nose plug because no other artist has ever offered them one before. Those types of small details will show your clients how thorough you are even before you start spraying them.
Stand in Gratitude
I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that there are other spray tan artists in your town. This means that the clients that come to you had other options, but still chose you! We should never take the fact that a client has trusted us with their service lightly. Continue to stay grounded in gratitude with every client that walks through your door and show that gratitude when you’re interacting with them throughout every step of their appointment. This can be done by greeting them by their name when they first arrive and thanking them for choosing your business at the beginning and end of their service. You would be amazed at how far a simple hello, using someone’s name and a thank you can go when creating a lasting impression.
Communicate Clearly
Communication is key! The entire spray tan experience is one that takes time for prep. Not only that, but many of your clients come to you feeling vulnerable and uneasy about the process, especially if they’re new to spray tanning. It’s important to make sure your clients have a very clear understanding of spray tan prep, aftercare and the process that is involved during an appointment. As you already know, creating a flawless spray tan is a job for two! You must rely on your client to do their part in the prep and aftercare process in order for them to receive the best results possible. However, as the artist, it’s your responsibility to take the lead in this team effort so that your client clearly understands how they can get the most out of their investment.
Dry and Dust
The feeling of a sticky spray tan can be super uncomfortable. This is why part of a five star experience involves making sure your clients don’t leave their appointment feeling like they just got their body spray painted. We all know that feeling after a spray tan where you don’t want to make any sudden movements and you get dressed with extreme caution because you don’t want to mess something up. You can communicate to your client that they may feel mildly sticky for a few minutes, but there are steps you can take to allow your clients to feel more comfortable during their development process. This is where it’s essential that you thoroughly dry them and use a finishing powder dusted all over the body. The finishing powder is a great addition to making clients feel more comfortable and should always be applied on areas that tend to feel more sticky or have transfer, such as the creases of the arms and legs, under the booty and on the underarm area.
Follow Up
Your job is not done when the client leaves their appointment if your goal is to create an impactful experience! A rule of thumb is that the fortune is in the follow up. Which means that your clients should be reminded that you’re grateful to have been given the opportunity to provide them with a service. Make it a priority to follow up 1-2 days after the appointment to check in with their experience so you can provide them with the opportunity to give feedback and ask any questions they may have. This allows you to resolve any issues and shows them that you genuinely care that they were satisfied with their results.
I hope that these tips on creating an overall amazing experience for your clients has your mind going over ways that you can create a five star experience that is unique to your beauty biz! Get creative and think outside the box when creating an experience that will stand out amongst the crowd. Remember that first impressions are lasting impressions. From the second your client walks through the door to the post appointment follow up, they should feel valued and appreciated.
